Learn to talk about illnesses, and prescribe advice to those in need.
Who? This class is for Upper-Intermediate members. Josh Billings, an American writer from the 19th Century, said, “Health is like money, we never have a true idea of its value until we lose it.” Even though he wrote those words almost two-hundred years ago, many people would still agree with him – but if you were taken ill, would you know what to do? If you were a patient (or even a hypochondriac) how would you describe your condition to a doctor? In case of an emergency, English Collective prescribes coming to this class!
What? In this class, we’ll start off by looking at some common illnesses, and what we would do if we suffered from them. Next, we’ll examine a dialogue between a doctor and a patient, and diagnose some conditions that other people might be suffering from. Finally, we’ll put on our doctor’s coats and strap on our stethoscope and roleplay doctors and nurses! Book Now»
Being Humans
Learn to describe the human body in detail, the common afflictions and problems it faces, and how people turn themselves into ‘supermen’.
Who? This class is for Upper-Intermediate members. Your body is a temple, or so people say. But your body is more than that – it’s a mobile supercomputer, capable of creating artistic masterpieces and performing amazing physical feats. However, it is vulnerable to a huge number of potential problems, some of which modern medicine is able to solve – others we’re still searching for an answer to. If you want to be able to talk about all the amazing things that happen inside us, then this is the class for you.
What? We’ll start this lesson by taking a look at the different parts of the body – do you know your arse from your elbow? Next, we’ll investigate the different ways our complex bodies can break down, and how scientists are trying to help us to prolong the inevitable. Finally, we’ll discuss how far is too far when it comes to pushing the boundaries of what we can do with to our skin and bones. Book Now»
